Most airplane hijackings tend to result in safe landings, because normal hijackers, no matter how seemingly crazed they are, usually want to continue living. 9/11 was not only exceptional, it was an exception.
So no, you *wouldn't* have done that, because before 9/11, airplane passengers would have assumed the hijack was for money and that they were an asset to the terrorists, rather than collateral damage in an oversized incendiary missile.
Morning Zoo radio shows are actually a great place for writers to get some lessons on this, since it seems about 90% of what those DJs talk about is product placed. Yet they do it so casually you almost miss it.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Mike fails to connect with potential customer...
Also, you seem to regard comics as a big slice of the net, when it's minuscule
I hate to just make a direct contradiction like this, but as a big follower of webcomics, this notion is utterly wrong in every way. There are TONS of webcomics out there, in every shape, size, style, and level of quality you can imagine from abstract ink bizarro-world daily strips to full-on digitally painted graphic novels that only update once a week or month. Even if "miniscule" is meant to be in comparison to some other unnamed thing, I would still contend that webcomics represent a larger faction than you think.
Moreover, many of these authors are making tons of money. And not just the 'established' set like Sluggy Freelance or Penny Arcade (In the case of PA, it should be noted, they're not only financially successful, but WILDLY financially successful). Schlock Mercenary has only been around since 2001, and it has been its author's sole source of income for a while now. Dr. McNinja has been around for 2-3 years - financially successful. MSPaint Adventures has been around for a little over a year - financially successful. AxeCop has been around for UNDER a year - financially successful. And there are creator-run comic collectives left and right which have found ways to be successful as well. There are patterns in how these comics have leveraged their content to make money. This is NOT a crapshoot.
Actually, there have been incidents in history where giant holes have been blown into commercial planes. In the worst case, you kill two or so rows a seats and one or two flight attendants. Everyone else survives because of the oxygen tanks and the fact that giant holes don't affect the pilot's ability to land. So bombing the security line would actually be more effective.
It's a good thing you included that parenthetical clarification at the end. It was so helpful to all us stupid people. Truly a godsend. I would have had no idea what you were talking about were it not for that simple addition. It really helps drive the point of your argument home. Thank you so much for that.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: You really want to see heads explode?
Because the end goal of the program is to do away with their business altogether? Corporations can be short-sighted, but they're not stupid. The minute they realized that the best solution would ultimately result in the government taking control of their precious profits, they began doing everything in their power to undermine it.
You have a point - I can imagine it being similar to how if you throw TNT at a nuclear bomb to try detonating it, you likely won't cause a nuclear explosion, and may not even spread radioactive material around either. And in this case, if there isn't even radioactive material involved, which makes it even more unlikely.
...I'm a bad example, but *I* watched Supersize Me, and all it did was make me hungry for McDonalds >_>
Also, there was that other guy who, in response to Supersize Me, ate only McD's in reasonable portions for the same amount of time and *lost* weight, just to prove that calorie intake was more important than food quality. (He also noted that the Supersize Me guy cheated by constantly drinking soda, even though he could have just as easily requested water or iced tea - and Coke was probably the primary cause of his weight gain)
Recently someone did the same thing with only Hostess products, showing that "unhealthy" foods don't actually cause you to be unhealthy as long as you watch how much and how often you eat. It's really a personal responsibility thing, in the end.

Actually, Israeli airport security would be a really, really positive alternative to what have. Not only are their airports considered far more secure than American ones, but also a lot less invasive to passengers.
Oh, I'm sorry, did I ruin your ethnocentric smuggery?
What's scary is that if a suicide bomber walked into one of those scanners, let it scan him/her, *THEN* set off the bomb - not only would it kill lots and lots of people, and not only would it make a mockery of the system, but it would effectively be a dirty bomb, since the blast would expose the interior of a radioactive device.
Or perhaps they will get taken out before detonating. A heroic effort, but imagine the repercussions of just a *failed* bombing attempt.
I don't understand why EBay, or even the other retailers, can be liable *before* the case with Paper Jamz even goes to trial. What if they're found to be innocent?? I mean they probably aren't but it's still possible. Aren't there antitrust laws that prevent companies from forcing retailers to remove competitors' - or alleged competitors' - products from the shelves?
