I have said this before, if they could they would call for the death penalty for file sharing, after all, the guys running the MAFIAA companies could afford a new car every 3 months rather then having to wait 6 months between new over priced cars...
sad to say this but, if you are not up on windows/ms office, most companies dont consider you to be an experienced computer user.
now, its great he kept the budget low, but, im willing to bet good money that most of those systems came with xp(if they run modern ubuntu, they have to at least be xp level hardware), as such they could have just used the windows license the system came with and still kept the budget at zero dollars.
I am also not a fan of ubunutu.....I personally would have used either pcbsd or Vector linux....(pcbsd being first choice) both are supperior to ubuntu in many ways....but neither of those are going to lead to jobs in your average "computer experiance needed" job.....when you see that, they mean Windows or rarely mac...
a little note about that, I have a few friends who went to schools that where 100% mac, and they had to take classes on how to use windows to get jobs that required computer experiance.
for better or worse, windows is the more mature and accepted OS in the business world.
well, being that google owns moto, you would think they would want moto owners to have the android experience that google envisioned, rather then moto's out dated, buggy locked down version.....either way, I hope this helps get some moto devices unlocked/updated.
bob, you are, without a doubt one of the biggest idiots I have ever come across, and that saying alot, I have worked at computer shops that catered mostly to mac users.....
google bought motorola because it was for sale, the wanted a way to make their own handsets since HTC nolonger is making handsets for 3rd parties.
motorola as a company is crap, they do not update their phones properly(support on many of their android phones was 1-2 updates then abandoned.)
they are patent trolls(something your in favor of)
the way I and many others see it, google should have taken direct control of motorola operations and forced them to stop the patent nonsense as well as forcing them to properly update their devices, they however didnt do that and instead let motorola keep running itself into the ground....
I hope this leads to google producing their own line of android devices to show most other makers how it should be done!!!
I recommend you check out Baen and the study they did with their ebook system.
baen is drm free, they also give away a large number of titles from a wide range of authors.
on top of that, they have given away cd's full of ebooks some from their free library some not, with physical books, what they found is, that even with piracy(copyright infringement) the "harm" done was minimal, the good that came from what amounts to cheap publicity was great, many authors whos works where given free on those cd's gained a large readership.
I understand your point on piracy and how stressful it can be, but alot of that stress is due to publishers/agents/exct imparting a false sense of panic in authors because, they themselves really dont understand how these things wor in "the real world"
I have worked with people who didnt understand, infact I even talked one fellow into putting one of his older apps on a few torrent sites with the common "if you like this please buy it" (or donate) blerb, he was quite shocked, within 3 months he had sold more copies and gotten more donations then he had inthe previous 4 years, all because he took a risk(his app was good, just not well known)
I know people who would rather buy an ebook and be insured of quality then download one thats likely to have errors, I also know many who will download an ebook, give it a look and if it looks good, buy the dead tree version if they can find a place to get it.
let me be clear, im no pro-piracy, but, I do feel that the hysteria over it is misplaced, for the most part if you offer a good quality product at what your market considered a reasonable price, you will sell.
one of my favorite authors bought his own books on nook store, stripped the drm and had shared them on demonoid with links to where people could buy them....in part because his publisher forced drm on his books and he didnt like it, and in part because he wanted to see if it would help or harm sales.....from what I gather....it didnt seem to effect sales at all in his case....and may have boosted hard cover sales....(his 2 books after that sold better then his previous hard covers by a decent % from what he said.
well either way, dale wasnt breaking the law or rules, he was actually helping authors....im of the mind that the people who caused this maybe should get the same dont to their own careers..... karma is a bitch after all.
i would guess what they do now is more along the lines of only throttling people who push the limits and torrent constantly at full speed.....they also throttle you if you do this with ftp or newsgroups or or or.....because they cant really provide you unlimited full speed, their network cant take it....they over sell their network capacity massively many places.
nice try at trolling but you where a bit to blatant about it....your execution lacked fineness...dont worry, you have time to learn to troll properly....may i suggest IRC as a good place to go to troll bootcamp.
the correcty way of saying what the op here ment was, proper trolling is an art, most of the trolls TD and other sites have are just unskilled hamfisted idiots.
a proper troll can work without anybody but possibly other skilled trolls catching on to what they are doing.
I have dont this on many tech forums, drive people to do and say things that get themselves banned...without it ever really appearing I did anything to set it off.....
I will admit to blatant trolling as well at times, because, some assholes really really just need somebody to troll the fuck out of them at times....(and because it can be fun to annoy idiots.....)
could you please hop over to http://ashentech.com/index.php/topic,3037.0.html we are working on lists of the good and bad ones in this situation to help others and ourselves avoid supporting the bad ones, as well as giving us some new authors to try and support.
its just an offer, better then posting a list in the comments on td.
you dont want to join or help out, thats fine.
yeah i noticed it multi posted....meh, shit happens.....if it was forum software i would just edit the posts to remove the duplicates.....buts not so i cant.
and i read the whole page and responded as i went down.....again dont like it.....not my problem.....hell your even more then welcome to not like me.....its not like the opinion of one asshole on the internets going to destroy my self worth...
you know, you may want to consider trying to setup some kind of promotion IF his site comes back up, give away your titles for a day or even a week, Yes it would cost you some sales, BUT it would also get alot of word of mouth....
word of mouth, as anybody in business can tell you, is the best advertising.
just an idea, also the guy who started all this may want to consider the same idea......if he reads this, he could at least try and earn some good will to counter the bad.
honestly, I think your best bet would be to try and setup some kind of donation based fund raiser to support him getting on a better host and prepaying for X amount of years, sounds like he uses godaddy and anybody who does website work knows godaddy suck horribly.....
thats what I Have so far, if anybody has more info to add, please join and post, (its my site) if you let me know your from techdirt, i will bump your post count to get rid of the capcha per post(bot blocker)
the thing is, your comment snowballed, he got threats and he was attacked, slandered and is still being attacked by some of the people your comment recruited. (check the lendink facebook page for example...there are still people there insisting your orignal post is fact)
it sucks, you made a mistake, a horrible mistake, take it as a life lesson.....pissing off the internet is bad.....
thankfully for myself, I have been around since the net was very young and I know better then to do things this stupid that will draw the ire of a wide swath of the net......
fear not the threats, they are just being dont to "fuck with the noob" as it where.....
what you could look at doing, and im not joking here, is start a donation drive to help Lendink get some better hosting.....that would show your remorse and would help this fellow out.....it may also cool some of the ire directed at you and direct it at those who did directly attack and threaten him.
the ONLY way your going to come out of this in better shape then your in now is to do something impressive to turn things around.....sorry but thats a fact.....you made a huge horrible mistake and screwed up somebodies life...

that pretty much covers drm....
drm is never good, it never does what it says it does(stop piracy), it only punishes those foolish enough to support it.
