I'm not 100% certain but this may have something to do with illegal mail-order RX medications which is a massive industry in India. If that's the case PayPal may be under pressure from the DEA or other Govt. agencies to "do something" about the issue.
Having said that, PayPal is indeed a total pain in the ass to deal with when it comes to getting ones funds in a timely manner. If you put in a request for funds to be transferred to your bank account they'll claim 3-4 days "depending on your bank" which is bullshit. PayPal holds on to the cash for a minimum of 36 hours AFTER you request your money. If you want your account to be "verified" they make two tiny deposits into your account which show up IMMEDIATELY so you can verify the amounts.
Hopefully at some future date enough people will complain and the Govt. will finally look into their practices.
Oh c'mon, how can you not crack a smile when seeing a lying sack of shit CEO like Roberts getting his own words fed back to him on a steaming platter of smart-ass?
I'm far from being an Al Franken fan but I could watch this kind of stuff all day long.
I know its naive but wouldn't it be better if The city of Seattle AND Mackie AND the public were allowed to use it without all the excess legal baggage?
End consumers should not be deciding what is free and what isn't, and they shouldn't be deciding which business model is right or wrong (and then supporting none of them).
It doesn't matter what "should" and "shouldn't" be done, it's what "is". The value of music has dropped to zero (financially speaking). We can argue moral imperatives all day but, in the end, the industry and artists WILL have to cater to the consumer in a way that the consumer wants if the artists and industry want to make a living. That's the way it is.
What kills me is that people argue as if there is any alternatives to the direction the music industry is heading in. The industry is going to change despite any arguments to the contrary. CWF + RTB isn't a choice, it's inevitable.
The guy automatically assumes that there will be enough people to support what he's proposing. From my own point of view people are stretched already due to the job market AND paying for a bill that most didn't have ten years ago....cell phone service which averages.... what? $60 per month? Further, those who would be interested in the tablet most likely have a smart-phone, some of whose services will most certainly overlap.
part of me wishes that Publishers would go that route (litigation against libraries) as it would cause such social outrage that people would educate themselves about the tactics of of not only publishers but music/movie industry parasites as well.
This somewhat reminds me of the practice of game publishers delaying the release of a PC version of a cross-platform game because of the unproven belief that pirated PC games cannibalize the console SKU sales. All it does is piss off PC gamers and turns the mistaken opinion of the PC as a dying game platform into a self-fulfilling prophecy.
I beleive after the raid a few years ago the founders claimed the had set up the site in a way that it could not pulled down again from a single location. Not being an IT person I have no idea what they could have done but, it looks like they did something right....
This statement makes zero sense. In what way do the record companies make anyone's music NOT suck? Due to have producers? Recent software/hardware that is cheap enough for the average person to buy can make anyone a producer. Professional Producers aren't the record company. They're paid employees. Re; quality of music thats mainly up to the musicians themselves.
