Listeners should make their own determination as to what constitutes "cream of the crop." Why in the world would you want some cigar-chomping, txakoli-sipping empty suit in a Manhattan office building making that determination for you?
Not to mention the great newer music that's being released without a label at all. Singleton's "The High Seas" is probably the best album I've heard in 2 or 3 years.
value the quality of the New York Times reporting and opinion and analysis
He says that, like it's just a foregone conclusion that the New York Times is still a relevant source for quality reporting. Have we flashed back to 1990 when I wasn't looking?
A little copyright, or a little trademark or patent, "because I deserve to get paid" is the first step on a slippery slope.
It is in the same manner as the recent ruling supporting those (very annoying) funeral protesters. If you are willing to take away their rights, it is a slippery slope until rights are taken away from many.
If you are willing to tolerate some restrictions on culture, you are in the same hot tub as anyone who seeks to stifle free speech, the right to bear arms, reasonable restrictions on searches and seizures, and everyone else who wishes to restrict the evolution of culture by making sure everything is virtually nailed down.
The movie is not infinite when it's released in installments. There is no dilemma with scarcity in this case.
BTW, why is it a go-to excuse for ACs to constantly attack the quality of not-traditionally-commercial work, no matter how good it actually is? They attack Nina Paley all the time. Anti-artist, I suppose?
EA wouldn't keep paying to make new LotR games if we weren't all already familiar with the specific characters and settings of the books (regardless of whether we actually ever read the books).
The problem? Only mega-huge media companies like EA can actually afford to produce adaptations of Lord of the Rings. No upstart video game developer could make a LOTR game, nor could your average independent filmmaker afford the rights to it.
This is the problem of copyright...it has become perverted to the point that it is only about protecting legacy jobs and preventing competition from anyone outside of the corporate oligarchy.

In case you missed what I was replying to:
Perhaps you expect that all of the movie and record guys will slap their head and go, "You know, Mike is right. Let's just fire everyone and start putting up cat videos on YouTube."
As that's not going to happen-- the consumer demand is too high for good, professional content...
It's a government job with a ton of benefits that pays around $43,000 a year, and like most government jobs they care more about your aptitude for the work than asking B.S. private employer questions like "Why do you want to work here?" and "Why do you think we should hire you?" and "Name five specific areas where you think you need improvement."
I applied to the TSA for the same reason I've applied everywhere else...because being unemployed for a length of time means I'm not picky. And unlike the literally hundreds of other job applications I've put in since 2008, the TSA actually gave me a call back.
I'm possibly facing employment by the TSA after over two years of unemployment. Should I be willing to give up what will probably be my only chance at a livable income because somebody wants to put me on a sex offender registry for doing my job?
And for the record, I *don't* agree with TSA procedures in this regard, but living in the poorest part of the country I don't have a lot of options, either. I couldn't even get a job at Taco Bell, despite positive work references and no criminal record.

Slippery slope.

That's the key. Nobody else has a copy of this, other than the filmmakers. And if it leaks, you can bet they're the ones that leak it.
