i have trouble with the word 'Obfuscation' all by itself :S
'bf' is always an awkward sequence, which makes it hard to nail the 'u', and is that -sc or s-c ? and if the former, which variant of it's pronunciation? (it can be read as ss or sk)
actually, it's probably not unlike what happens to people in the NZ cheif censor's position: anyone with the moral capability to do the job correctly has no desire to and burns out pretty quickly if they do. when someone lasts too long in that job you start wondering about them somewhat.
(while they do filter for other things, the Vast majority of their job is going through movies and TV shows and the like, filtering for child pornography. they have underlings who's job it is to check things and assign ratings and the like, but the person with that job has to watch all the disturbing crap and be the one to decide if it's bad enough to outright forbid or not. that means dealing with a lot of really sick stuff.)
NZ's a backbone of 'freedom' in the sense that, from where i'm sitting, it mostly ignores you unless you're actively causing problems... and most Kiwis can't be bothered causing problems when the issue doesn't personally affect them. so... it's less freedom and more lazyness.
hence why that 'freedom' vanishes the moment the US comes knocking... and why we're (fortunately) still not a republic... among other things.
that said, i figure if our government could get their heads around the fact that NZ is, in fact, a sovereign nation and no, they, the elected officials, are NOT the bosses, it'd all work quite nicely as is. (especially if the Monarchy/governers got it through their heads that, much as parliament exists to limit the excesses of monarchy, it is their job, duty, and reason for existing to limit the excesses of parliament. not the only one, but certainly the most meaningful day to day. well, that and the fact that, last i looked, officially speaking the bureaucracy answers to the monarch, not parliament. )
there's a reason why laws that do not include them are required to state 'REAL people'. it's because legally corporations are, somehow, people... except when that would get them in trouble. somehow.
humm. that reminds me: who has the right of high justice when it comes to congress critters and high ranking corporate nutjobs? the US doesn't have a monarch, so the default option isn't there...
(essentially, any system where those responsible for meeting out justice, high, middle, or low, are beholden to those whom they are meant to judge... an't gonna work.
... as failures go, achieving that would be pretty epic. i'm not sure what they were hoping to achieve with that statement... if they were believed those who were supposedly in control of the thing should have been fired at minimum for abject incompitency and the entire industry folded up to cover as much of the debt they would have had to have been in as possible...
as we can see, that didn't happen. Someone's lieing and/or not doing their job.

ya know, way i see it, the general public in the USA seems to pay their taxes and yet get no representation in their government.
that seems awfully familiar, somehow.

then again, i suppose it depends on what one means by 'wretched'... fancy suits, nice cars and expensive food do kinda paint the opposite image.
their main competition for 'scum and villainy' these days seems to be Hollywood though.
well, scum and villainy you can't just shoot in the head or drop a bomb on anyway.
