doh! Now I see Pickle Monger's post up above mine. Should have skimmed all the comments a bit better. I guess it was American Airlines and Alaska that have their pilots using iPads.
Here's a question: Do the pilots have to turn their iPads off during take off and landing? I remember seeing an article a while back where I think it was United Airlines was putting all their flight manuals onto iPads for the pilots to use so they didn't have to lug around heavy books anymore. If they can use them *IN* the cockpit, there's no reason the passengers can't use them in the cabin.
Wait, so how exactly does Google Search have a monopoly in France? There are probably at least a dozen other search engines available people can use. Google just happens to be one of the better ones and is the one most people use. There is absolutely nothing stopping the citizens of France from using Bing or Yahoo or Alta Vista or Ask Jeeves or Ask.com, etc, etc, etc...
Don't keep anything incriminating on your phone and you have nothing to worry about. Even better, don't speed and you won't get pulled over and therefore won't give police the opportunity to search your phone.
Going to be funny the next time Blizzard releases a big patch for WoW. Gonna have a bunch of students suddenly blocked from their network because Blizz used Bittorrent to distribute the patches.
Reed's plan is only going to work if Netflix gets in gear and converts it's ENTIRE DVD collection on to the streaming network. The main reason most people are doing both DVD and streaming is that not everything is on streaming yet. There is a pretty good selection, yes, but a lot of stuff that people want to watch are not yet on streaming.
Thankfully, Cox hasn't implemented caps in my area yet. I checked my router software, which keeps track of the past few months of total bandwidth (DD-WRT firmware) and the past few months we've been well over 100GB a month. The highest was May which was 154GB and half way through July we're already over 100GB. I don't do any illegal torrenting and I don't think my roommate does (the upload numbers seem to support this) so this is all just from online gaming, Netflix streaming, watching videos online, music streaming, web browsing and downloading Steam games (damn you Steam for having such crazy cool sales!!!) for just 2 people. We have a third roommate, but he's so rarely at home he doesn't really contribute to the bandwidth used all that much.
So to everyone who is scoffing saying it's really hard to hit caps like this, just look at my example - 2 people, "normal" usage, hitting over 100GB/month easily. I was actually pretty surprised that we had gone that high. Unless you are paying attention just normal usage could get you into trouble if you have caps.
The scanning machine is just a way for the TSA agents to get their rocks off. A friend of mine at work was flying through the Las Vegas airport and at the time they were picking "random" people to go through the scanner. He sat there and watched while the TSA agents "randomly" pulled every attractive woman from the line to go through the scanner.
Only the 2nd time he's been turned down? My memory is fuzzy, but I thought I remembered he tried to do an Eminem parody a few years back and was denied permission from Mr. Shady.
You have to admit, the timing and location of his "vacation" is a little bit suspect. Don't get me wrong, I support him in this case, because I really feel he didn't do anything wrong, but he's not helping his case at all by appearing to flee the country.
I'm guessing if they have 19 grand to blow on pre-school, she's probably a trophy, stay-at-home wife. The nanny probably spends more time with the kid than she does.
So wait....were the libertarians meeting to give support to the guy who was arrested, or supporting the fact that he was arrested? The wording in the article makes that fact somewhat unclear. To me it sounds like they supported the police arresting the person, so why would the police be waiting outside and following this guy?
Imagine that! Putting a month long delay doesn't get people to buy the DVD instead. I'm shocked, I tell, you! shocked!
/sarcasm
For Redbox this was a really bad idea, as most of their business will be people wanting the new releases. For Netflix it's not that big of a deal for most people as their queues are so long (or at least mine is) that they rarely get a new movie until well after a month anyway.
