Overall sales of what? Are we talking about music? CD's? Movies? DVD's or Bluray's? What has been cut in half?
What of the entire industries? Aren't they making more money as a whole than they ever have before? People aren't going to keep buying discs forever file sharing or not.
The character in question in the game is named 'Carl "CJ" Johnson. This character was based off of and voice by Young Maylay (aka Chris Bellard). GTA: SA was released in October of 2004, it is now December of 2010 - what took so long to figure out this character was based off of Michael Washington?
Darryl why are you so stuck on the entertainment industry's teat that you can't see when something is stupid?
What are you really trying to say here? That the internet is just like TV? So if I am watching Netflix (I am Canadian after all) and I select a show I want to watch, Netflix should be bound by law to show me some Canadian show first?
"You haven't been watching enough Canadian TV, you will have to sit through 30 minutes of something totally unrelated to what you have selected before you can watch your show."
Seriously?? You can honestly say this is how you think things should work? Just because a telco company said so? I assume you have a brain, try using it!
Would simply pirating movies and TV shows be preferable to Netflix for everyone? Netflix gives people the option of going from a "pirate" to a paying customer. It is an on-demand solution for a reasonable price, exactly what the customers are looking for these days.
The only thing I can see Netflix sucking at is the streaming selection and that isn't their fault. Why do you agree that Netflix sucks?
It is harder to kill people without everyone getting upset if you can't start screaming "terrorist!!" though. Enough with the rational thought! Back in line, terrorist organization it is.
Netflix is big about getting on as many devices as possible. What is stopping someone (a music label even) from creating a Netflix like service that streams a searchable catalog to any device? All of the Apple-heads can get an "app" on their iDevice, everyone else can use the web, car stereo's could stream via a wifi connection of some sort.
Sounds like you just came up with a good idea for a business.
I had a friend complaining to me the other day that he couldn't find any movies worth downloading off of the torrent sites. Pretty bad when people don't even want to see your movie (or hear your music) when it costs them nothing.
Agreed. $6/mo is less than Netflix and you'd have access to more than their crappy streaming catalog of movies. Give me a service I can sign up for and opt out of that puts me on the legal side of the law for $6/mo? I'd be all over that deal.
But I don't pay for it, how is that not free? If they've figured out how to give away music to me for free and make money elsewhere why are they the exception? No one here is saying you can't make money with music, they are saying the old way of doing it (i.e. selling plastic discs) doesn't work anymore.

Just because you don't like what Assange has done doesn't make it illegal.
