"We expect our government to be a lot more selfless"...
This is the problem - we shouldn't ever trust a government. Every government that has failed has done so after betraying it's citizens. Every government that currently exists is slowly encroaching on the rights of it's citizens. It isn't a matter of if a government goes after it's citizens, it's a matter of when.
We should take every opportunity to trim the size of government, and what little government is needed should be made as local as is possible.
I wish we could implement a kirk like premise whereby the US government would acknowledge that it is a de-facto terrorist organization and therefore it would have to seize the money it is seizing as it is funding a terrorist organization which would mean it would have to seize the money it was seizing and therefore it would have to seize the money it was seiz...
I would have to imagine that whether or not developing true AI is possible would have to do with whether or not it was allowed for in the programming of our universe.
Really, if the Democrats and Republicans would get together we could legislate that everyone is healthy, well fed, well educated and living in a mansion and then we can just call it a wrap.
Oh, but he will answer to the public. Of course the answer will be pointing out that they were underfunded and if only they could get more money all the problems would go away...
The whole argument of inaccuracy seems to rest on the belief the TomTom's data is the reference for accuracy.
Having used my TomTom for years (and loved it), I can guarantee it's anything but accurate. I always expect that it's going to lead me to a goat path or something else long grown over whenever I'm out travelling.
I'd love a good TomTom like gps that used continuously updated OSM maps.
What drives me crazy is that the Nest is certainly something that can be successfully competed with. The price is way too high, and while the distinctive look is great, it isn't for everybody. It would be great if it could network with a bunch of passive thermostats and deliver better whole house temperature control. Heck, if it's good at sensing people, it could control lights as well.
This is a product in it's infancy, and Honeywell could easily innovate in this space, but instead it chooses to litigate.
I think I'll be avoiding Honeywell products from now on - it's time for them to get out of the way.
For the majority of history governments ruled with an iron fist, mostly for the benefit of the rulers. This 200+ year flirtation with government for the people may be simply an aberration that is soon to be just a footnote in history.
Smaller government was again rejected in the USA, as seems to be the case in other countries.
Re: Re: The Postal Service must be saved because it beats the alternative
The USPS has often lost letters and filled my mailbox full of garbage that I need to sort through on the off chance there may be something I need. Because of that, I refuse to use them.
