For everyone who has posted ideas, great effort most of them I believe to be steps in the right direction. Now that you've come up with the ideas, take them to the people that write the legislation....your senators and representatives. Get those ideas in their hands and continue to beat them about the head and neck with why the stuff already being pushed is total bullshit.
Let's remember one thing, in order for the first amendment to be violated it has to be a GOVERNMENT agency doing the violating. The whole point of the amendments to the Constitution were to place limits on the government, not on individual citizens. As such, consumers making a statement with their wallets that causes a company to change its stance on a particular piece of legislation is in no way a violation of the company/corporation's freedom of speech.
I would be very careful about calling bullshit on someone for assigning malice to the actions of corporations or governments. You may come to regret those words.
I'm waiting for a government to take the stand that if the companies want to play that way then copyright should just be abolished. I know, it'll never happen, but I can dream grand dreams can't I?
So the fact that it got over 7500 responses nationwide means its irrelevant? I don't think so. Even if it is (and was) done via a smartphone app, 7500 responses nationwide is a statistically significant number. Most nationwide surveys are considered relatively accurate with just over 1500 responses.
And I have to say that I am ashamed of my age demographic's response. You would think they would be the ones most aware of the necessity of free speech since they're the group that has used it the most over things like the civil rights movement.
I would rather there not be a need for anyone to represent me or anyone else. The TSA is not a deterrent, it simpnly a political response to try and show that something is being done, when in actuality, nothing is being done, other than the dismemberment of the constitution.
Where does it say a judge has anything to say about it? Hell, under the current proposals, all anyone has to do is cry "Infringement!!!" and down goes the site.
In point of fact, no, they do not. They tell you what society says is legal or illegal. An individual makes those decisions for themselves. Granted, most of us take our society's beliefs into account before making those decisions, but we each make a choice of whether or not to follow society's rules.
Dude, its a game. Is it really necessary to try to force people playing a game to think critically? Damn, I play games to blow off steam and relax, not to have to think critically about the consequences of my actions in it.
